Introduction

The mpnkey is found loitering in the pages of Userfriendly. Its appearance varies according to who describes it. There are some pictures of three versions that can be seen on different occasions.

Sketcher’s mpnkey, the Big Demon, looks like this:

Other characters that can be seen in the mpnkey story are Dust Puppy, Sid, Erwin, and others to be found in the Userfriendly comic. The mpnkey story runs in parallel with the Userfriendly comic, and cartoons posted for the relevant days should be consulted for reference.

Readers of Userfriendly ("UFies") who post to the comments board are encouraged to create a diary - their personal space where they enter some details about themselves, and carry on conversations with other UFies. mpnkey created a diary before this post, and it can be found here. The Story

The mpnkey began as a typo on the comments page of the comic Userfriendly. It was born in the thread to be found here. The name was originated by Stacato, and the character acquired its hairiness from him. Its small size came originally from Sketcher in the same thread. The characters grew in the regular postings fromSketcher, DragonLady and middleagedman (otherwise known as M.A.M).

23 June 2001	Mpnkey first appears in the SSMTOTD, and DragonLady relates hairy feet with the mpnkey. Sketcher adds: "scales & large grotesque teeth, breathes fire & it has bigass cool, wicked wings ... [be]cause it has a cutesy name, it needs to be scary ... it would be a really dark red, blackish color... and a voice like a mouse squeak, but it can speak any human language... ,and of course, any mpnkey language... it will be slightly humanoid, and, lizard like... [with] feirce pink eyes, cause pink eyes are nasty scary..."
24 June 2001	Big Demon eats human babies.
25 June 2001	Big Demon gets a big feed.
26 June 2001	Sketcher announces that he will provide a picture of Big Demon.
27 June 2001	middleagedman finds Big Demon lurking outside his daughter’s window.
29 June 2001	Sketcher announces that the picture of Big Demon has been posted. Big Demon has sold Sketcher’s soul to the devil for a lifetime supply of babies.

4 July 2001	Sketcher suggests feeding his mother’s dog Baily to the Big Demon.
5 July 2001	Big Demon writes SSMTOTD, and flirts with DragonLady.
9 July 2001	Sketcher’s SSMTOTD before he leaves on a camping trip.
9 July 2001 9 July 2001	mpnkey logs on, acquires a diary. He appears spasmodically on the board from now on.

Whilst Sketcher was away, the story was taken up by DragonLady in the DragonLady's Mpnkey Talk Of The Day threads (DLMTOTD). This version of the name was suggested by brion on 19 July.

11 July 2001 12 July 2001	The Big Demon mpnkey kept chasing Little Hairy One, Dragon Lady had run out of babies for the Big Demon to eat, and middleagedman’s small daughter had been sent away …
13 July 2001	The Big Demon found a furry thing, and ate it, leaving a heap of fur and some horny things, its toe nails – which means it had eaten Dust Puppy. The Big Demon began glowing green, and was still hungry, because it was growing. Looking for more food in the (silo) hole in the desert, Big Demon also eats some strange ‘statue-like beings’, found staring at some screens. He develops a taste for geeks.
14 July 2001	Big Demon is not well, wilting, after eating too many geeks. DragonLady suggests asking Sid for help.
15 July 2001	Big Demon is back to normal, after Sid used his XOR/NAND machine to return him to his previous state. Dust Puppy returns.

Sketcher returned from vacation, and SSMTOTD continued:

15 July 2001	Big Demon complains that DragonLady has not fed him enough.
16 July 2001	Big Demon gets introduced to gaming.
DLMTOTD 16 July 2001	Big Demon wants to eat the excessive trolls on the page
17 July 2001	In SSMTOTD, Big Demon gets impatient with Sketcher’s game playing. The baby reserves are down to "only 2 and a half jars"
18 July 2001	Dust Puppy asks for help as Big Demon is trying to eat him again. Sketcher considers neutering Big Demon to prevent the aggressive attacks.

Sketcher pulled a double shift, so DragonLady filled in with DLMTOTD:

19 July 2001

Big Demon is back to wanting to eat middleagedman’s daughter. DragonLady suggests that Sketcher is not working, but is afraid to show after threatening to neuter Big Demon.

M.A.M thinks his daughter’s dog Smog ate the mpnkey that he saw outside his daughter’s window. Smog is "bigger than the house, with the scales and the teeth and the spikey tail and the wings – and - it breathes fire – it is a fire-dog.

Sketcher returned with:

20 July 2001	Big demon escapes from Sketcher’s efforts with his ninja sword by flying out of the window.
21 July 2001	Sketcher decides to go to a vet with Big Demon.
22 July 2001	The Big Demon has been neutered … at great personal loss to the Vet …. Big Demon is rewarded for his improved attitude.

Smog acquires a diary.

SSMTOTD 23 July 2001	Big Demon is a reformed mpnkey, so polite that it hurts.
24 July 2001	Big Demon and the monkey mpnkey play Counter-Strike.

DLMTOTD 29 July 2001	Faced with Erwin’s demands for the return of his cleaning bot, and Big Demon and Little Hairy One’s demands for pizza and Coke, DragonLady sends the mpnkeys and their tazer-monster through the door to deal with Erwin’s bot.
